What is laser vision correction?
It is a surgical procedure that uses a cool (non-thermal) beam of light to gently reshape the cornea — the surface of the eye — to improve vision. The laser removes microscopic bits of tissue to flatten the cornea (to correct nearsightedness), steepen the cornea (to correct farsightedness) and/or smooth out corneal irregularities (to correct astigmatism).
The goal of laser eye surgery is to change the shape the cornea so it does a better job of focusing images onto the retina for sharper vision.

Do I have to have photos done every year?
No, you don't have to have retinal photos done every year. Having the photos instead of dilation does allow for Dr. Jahnke to track any changes in eye health with photos instead of written description.
Are retinal photos better than dilation?
Yes. Retinal photos allow Doctor Jahnke to see more of the retina at once and the digital image is saved onto a computer and into the patient's health record. With the digital image, the doctor can more easily describe/explain parts of the eye and any areas of concern. With dilation, the doctor is able to see the same image--in smaller sections--but cannot as easily describe what he sees to the patient. Many people prefer retinal photos since the overall exam time is shortened and they don't have to worry about light sensitivity.
